Casual Boho Look //Ripped Denim Shorts + A Make Over White Shirt//

I am not usually put a fashion post on my blog. Well, occasionally I do. Although in my heart I very much love fashion my taste in fashion somewhat changed after I hospitalized for 2 months almost 10 years a go this coming June 2015.  Since then my life took a turn on me. I was lucky to be alive. And I am very grateful for it. My number one priority now is to taking care of my health.

Eating healthy and to stay slim as I am getting older is very important to me. Beside taking care of myself, to keep busy and creative are as important. Only recently I feel confidence to be photographed like these again.

Hence my husband told me that I should blog about my DIY fashion since I love to re -create a  pair of blue jeans or a shirt I bought from a thrift stores.Or anything I create related to fashion. This has becoming a hobby.  And he told me that I should be honest about of who I am that I am not trying to be a young girl who look effortless pretty in anything. I am doing it because I need to celebrate and share of how I overcome a deadly disease and 10 years later I still look the same as if nothing had happened to me.

I must be honest that this takes a lot of work. I eat moderately and most of the time when at home I eat healthy food. I exercise at home everyday for the past 5 years. Since I can not do a hard exercise I am only doing a soft exercise. Except when I am traveling. I make sure that I get 8 to 9 hours  sleep everynight. And as mentioned earlier I feel the need to be creative; to create something or to challenge myself in doing something that makes happy somehow makes me healthier. I am a curious person so I always like to challenge myself to do something I never done before. My everyday life is pretty constant. It is almost the same everyday but it always been the happy one. Thanks to my husband Steven who is very kind and understand of who I am and what I need. I truly realize I am very lucky to have him as my husband.

What I like about this look is that very casual and  feminine.  In my mind it related to nature like the Gypsy people who practically lives out door most of the time. May be that is why it has the 'free' feel to it that associated with the saying  'free spirit'. To wear this look you can start with a stack of colorful beaded or strand of bracelets. Also similar style for the necklace. The current style to wear this look is to wear with denim short or jeans, or a white cotton mini shift dress. Wearing it with a floppy hat or a flower crown creates a modern edgy bohemian feminine look. I also love to wear this look to go on a vacation to an island or a beach. A white dress or a long dress are always soothing to wear in the tropical climate and by the beach. But it is much more fun to wear some colorful accessories too, like beaded bracelets or a flower crown. Now each time Steven and I go for a vacation to an exotic island or a beach I always look at my pinterest board just to get an inspiration on what to wear. (here and here).

So here I am wearing a ripped denim short and a make over white cotton shirt bought from Goodwill {tutorial below} and a colorful mix and match bracelets with my DIY beaded tassel bracelets and a DIY necklace, here. (I did not have a step by step on how to do these bracelets and necklace because I did not take any picture when created them.) To finish the look I added by wearing a crochet lace boot socks (tutorial below) under the vintage boots. The crochet trimming on the top part of the socks complete the bohemian look with a modern twist to it.

*******************************************************

Cotton white shirt make over.

Goodwill is a good place to find a shirt if you are going to do a make over. The cost is only USD 3.99 each so if you made a mistake it wont be so bad. Get the one that 2 size larger than your size because to get the look you need a loose type of shirt then you can embellish it with a diy belt from the same material or you can make a dress from one large shirt. It is entirely up to you. Here I found the perfect shirt and it is an XL size while I am wearing medium and sometime Small. What I did was I cut the sleeves off along the stitching line. So it became a sleeveless summer white shirt. Then I cut the trimming at the end of both sleeves. I used it to tie the top part of the shoulder just to add a style of playful and youthful looking.

Crochet lace boot socks (DIY)

I am using a pants socks bought from Wallmart. They are USD 2.99 per pair. The crochet lace trimmings bought from Jo Ann fabrics. It is USd 3.99 per yard. You only need 1 yard. And get the widest width  you can get. Mine is 3" to 3-1/2" width

You need an elastic thread to sew this by hand. Start stitch a basting stitch attaching the trimming just an inch below the top of the socks. Remember the sock has to be stretched when wearing it so you have to gather the trimmings while stitching it.You can use your left thumb while stitching to move extra trimmings before stitching it each time. Other wise the socks will not pull  all the way up and stop around the ankle. Note; my boots just between the knee and ankle so these socks are perfect for it. Depend on the type of boots you then need to determine the type of size of socks you need for your boots. You can use any type of socks for this project.

Sweet Soft Pink Maxi Skirt + Black Cropped Sweater (Jessica Alba inspired)

I was stunned by Jessica Alba's out fit when saw it for the first time on my Facebook home page. I love the simple  flowy soft pink skirt paired with black cropped jacket. The simple outdated skirt was transformed into a current look by pairing it with a black cropped sweater. The  open toes sandals just add sweetness and sexiness to the whole outfit.

I don't usually  copy Hollywood celebrities' outfit.  I do love looking at what they are wearing and goes...ahhh...uhhh..over their gorgeous accessories and outfit. But this one is different. Beside the simplicity, I already have the Kelly style bag, and  the open toes sandals  {mine is silver with a wider ankle band}. At the beginning I thought I was going to  sew the skirt myself. And I knew I could get the black cropped sweater online on some clothing sites.

So my search started. Then in Florida (yes....during our last trip in Florida last October) I found a set of this pink outfit; a skirt and halter beaded top. I only want the skirt.  I tried them on. The skirt fits me perfectly and it was only for USD 25.00. It looks brand new too. So I bought them. I am glad I found it because I did not have to sew the skirt as planned originally.

The silver sandals I already own does not look right with the skirt. I thought it may be because it has a wider ankle band.

I really love this look.  I knew  that this silhouette will look perfect for my petite figure. More over  it elongate my body. And lengthen my legs. What do you think? Do I successfully pull Jessica Alba's look?

Champage Long Tutu Skirt, Black Bow Sandals and Black Bow Hair Clip {All DIY}

Hello,
I am very much in love with tutu skirt lately. I love  how the skirt drapes and I can tolerate with just enough gathered around the waist and enjoy wearing them. This time I want it to be longer than the last time I made {here}. And I think it looks elegant when the length falls anywhere below the knee.

I am also learning more and more about photography.  I taught and brought my husband Steven to the park to  photograph me.  I want to use the natural light but the sun was not low on the horizon enough to get the sun reflecting on my upper body. I only got a little on my hair. But I love how these pictures turned out to be.

These purple sandals are good as new. I have not been wearing them since I bought them about  5 years a go.  When I saw Guiseppe Zanotti sandals over at Pinterest, here; I was inspired by it. Tutorial for these Black Bow Sandals is here.

I love wearing my hair up do. Since I have a few of black hair clips bought from Target; I thought I can add a bow to the hair clip. It was so easy to do. You can use different color and motifs of material for the bow. Check out tutorial, here.

Thank you so much for visiting me. And have a beautiful Fall day!

Saturday Afternoon At Old Westbury Gardens

Although I love fashion very much; I must admit that I am not confidence to pose in front of camera any more. But there is a small part of me telling I should just enjoy it while I can and just go for it. So here I am.

Old Westbury Gardens situated in Long Island. I regretted that I did not come here during this spring and summer time to take pictures of the surrounding beauty of the once home and estate of heir to US Steel fortune John S. Phipps and his family. {More; here.}

It is now a museum and open to public. The sprawling landscape and gardens are just beautiful. This time I did not see many flowers because it is the end of summer and coming into fall and winter. Next year I promise myself that I would come here often start in spring where flowers starts to bloom.

I am now into photography. And I start to enjoy taking pictures of people especially young kids. Here I wanted to experiment taking pictures of people {or 'me' I should say} outdoor and using natural light. I always want to learn new things on how to use the camera so I can take beautiful photography. I found it is quite challenging right now but I believe and with so many sources to learn out there like youtube, pinterest and yes you can enroll to a class too; one day I can take better and beautiful photos.

Here, I asked my husband Steven to take these pictures. He is one of those people with camera in their hands and just point and shoot type of photographer. So I directed him a lot in this photo shoot session at Old Westbury Gardens.  And as you can imagine it was hard, because I ran a round with my high heels back and forth. {I did have another pair of comfortable shoes with me.} These are not the best photos but they are good enough for now.

What I am  wearing;
- Top; random from Marshall, here
- Pants; thrifted from Goodwill
- Hat; from Lord and Taylor, here
- Shoes; Christian Louboutin Pigalle, here
- Bag; Marc Jacobs satchel, here

Thank you so much for looking and have a beautiful Sunday Everyone!

My Romantic Home Made Tutu Skirt

To be honest I am a little shy to show you this post.

Sometimes when you reached a certain age; things are not so sure as it used to be. But I wanted to show the semi tutu skirt that I created. So here we go.....!
I was always love fashion since young age and lived in Jakarta, Indonesia. And I still do. It is hard not to when you live in the most fashionable city in the world like New York right?. But I must admit that my tone of fashion has calmed down a little. I prefer wearing a classic and elegant pieces. Something easy to mix and match; usually pants, jeans, top, blazer and simple button down shirt.

I think older woman can still be fashionable and stylish looking as long as it goes with her age and shape of body as well. I always been a small person. And I do not gain a lot of weight since I was in my 20s or 30s. Although it changed a little {I can't avoid this, unfortunately! Aren't we all!}

Well, as  a Pinterest addict; I have what I called 'Fashion Inspiration' board {here}. On the board I have several 'tutu skirt' tutorials. I love the look of these gorgeous ladies in their tutu skirts. So I went on a quest to create a tutu skirt on my own. Actually, my mother gave me her engagement dress that similar to these tutu skirts. It was made out of a tulle & tafetta. But it was a long time a go. And I did not know what has happened to that dress.I wish I had kept it because from what I remember it was beautiful.

Anyway, I struggled  following the tutorial (here). In the end I did not follow the tutorial. My mother has thought me how to make a simple pencil skirt many years a go. So I still remember although I have stopped making skirt for quite some time now. And that was how I made this skirt.

This skirt is not perfect as mentioned earlier it has been a long time since I sewn a skirt.  I will make a perfect one in the future. I am planning to make different colors of tulle tutu skirts next time. I think they are fun to wear to any occasion.

Complete tutorial on how I made this 'tutu skirt', here!

Do you see the beaded clutch on the left? It's a DIY beaded vintage clutch by me. I will post about it sometime in the future.

As you can see; I am not good when it comes to photograph people. I need a lesson from a professional on this area. I asked Steven my husband to help shoot me. But even he doesn't know about photography at all. So as I was posing I also thought him  on how to use the camera at the same time. That particular day was super hot and I was melting and sweat dripping down from the top of my head down to my cheek. It was not fun at all. Anyways, we did it so fast and eager to go home and got out from the out door heat.
And oh, this is Steven's cousin's home at West Hampton, New York. They were not home when we did the shooting. With their permission we were only used the guest house for me to change and the back yard where the swimming pool is to do the shoot.

I found these feathers on the ground when we were taking these photos. I am into bird's feathers these days.

I hope you are having a fantastic week so far.
Thank you for stopping by!

9 Ways Wearing Simple Sweater with Skirts for Fall

Simple sweater is very versatile and easy to wear during cold season. The cream plain color is sophisticate to wear with skirts; tailored pants or jeans. All you need is a statement jewelry either wear it with pair of earrings or a necklace.

I was very happy to have found this cream sweater yesterday at Loehmann's USD 29.00 with 25% discount {similar here and here}. Initially I was looking for a cream simple sweater to DIY to put lettering on the front part to make it fun and young looking. But I could not find any perfect lettering to stencil on to. So I am postponing this project for the future.

In the meantime I was trying to organize my wardrobe as to what I could wear this sweater with.

I found 9 ways to wear it with different skirts available in my closet.

I love this look and pairing it with high waist pencil skirt. I put a brooch on the sweater to give a 'lady like' look.

 To go to that special dinner with 'the love one', this skirt is perfect with the sweater. The lace tiered ruffled and a bow on the waist adds a touch of glamour for any occasion at night.

This below the knee length of boucle skirt is perfect to wear during day time. Simple and classic.

Pair it with sequin mini skirt will create an edgy young and playful to go out at night. Here I am wearing it with cream vintage embroidered purse and embroidered 2 circles earrings to carry out the embroidered and sequin theme.

This look is simple and classic. Wearing it with oxford pumps and pearl necklace.

 This look is 'young and sweet' looking. Wearing it with t-strap pumps and stripes skirt is just lovely !

I can wear this to accompany my husband to a business meeting. All I need is a tailored jacket to complete the look.

Another look for day occasion; lunch with friends maybe ?

I own this skirt for as long as I can remember. I love the detail in the front part. This skirt is stretched and when wearing it; I immediately feel slimmer. You know, this is one of those skirt, and as long as you don't gain lots of weight, this skirt will always be my favorite. I cinched the sweater on the waist by wearing a skinny vintage golden belt.  And it feels that the whole look is elongated my body. I like it !

I can picture wearing any of these looks with a jacket or coat just hanging on your shoulder without wearing it completely. Oh, so lady like and so elegant !

Well, thank you so much for reading !
