A Book from the Past

As if it was yesterday this book still gives me some excitement when I look at the page by page photographs.

I only bought this book about 12 years a go when I was a student. Buried somewhere in a box, I was thrilled to have found it when opened up boxes in our new home. Still it gives ton of inspiration as I turned the pages.

Do you have one book although it is old still gives you an inspiration and excitement each time you open up the pages? For me, this book embodied that one particular feel. Already I brewed some inspiration in my mind that I wanted to tackle as a home decor project in the future.

These images were shot with Nikkor 50 mm and 85 mm f/1.8D AF Nikon lenses. As a result the close up images creates an artistic photography rather then showing the full image of pages.

In the past I always fulfill my client's request to shoot them during mid day; for example 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm. It is up to you to educate your client to ask them to shoot around 4:00 pm or even 5:00 pm depends on the hours of the year like winter time or summer time as 5:00 pm it gets dark quicker during winter time. Shooting  portrait during this hour is so glorious. You will get that sharp soft images. From now on I will try to talk into my client to shoot during these hours only. It is a two way street. It is good for you but even better for your client as they will get a beautiful images of themselves.

Some of these images shot at 2:00 pm and some at 5:30 to 6:00 pm. Can you tell which one which  are those images?

If you interested in purchasing this book, it is available (here).

I do hope you enjoy looking at these images taken from Carolyn Quartermaine's REVEALED book.
And, thank you for stopping by.

Thinking of You

'What we have once enjoyed we can never lose.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us."
-Helen Keller-

you were once brought a rainbow
everyday,
appeared on the horizon of my deepest soul
I, danced in colors
of your love, sorrow and tears
we swam to the end of the  universe
 giggling amongst stars
running through the valley of thunder
bare feet smothered with
rain fell  on our body

that was  a decade a go
today
I am seeing  your smile
behind the curtain of a thin lace
covers
the aging face of mine

"what if.........."
a soft voice gently whispering in
my ear

"what if......."
a soft sweet voice rushing in from the bottom of my feet
to the tip of my hair

my eyes wide open

there is no one there, but my breathe
do you hear me?

This post is dedicated to a long lost people who used to be a part of our lives, whom used to have a special place in our heart, whom  smile, anger and laughter was once a part of ours. They exit from our presence for once and for all for what ever reason and no where to be seen again.
I still remember them as yesterday. I smile for their tender care and kind and I let go the painful history we have spent in between.
In my heart they come and go; but they are always there still in me.

Thank you so much for stopping by.
Have a great week end Everyone!

When a dream finally came true......

Today Steven signed the contract for the new house we bought. It means we are officially going to move to a new house by the end of this year.

I never imagined that my life could turn out to be just like wanted to be. When I was single living a lone in Manhattan New York  and was in school 11 years a go {yes I went back to school at later age} I dreamt about marrying someone from New York and have a small house with a small garden and a studio or a working space of my own. When I married Steven 8 years a go; one of those dreams came true but I have not had a garden and a working space of my own. And never had I see it coming, right after I met Steven I suddenly got ill and hospitalized for 2 months in which I had gone under 3 times open heart surgeries.  Never had I imagined it happened to me. Well, it happened on June 2004. It was a long time a go but it sure feels like yesterday.

Looking back, I feel the luckiest person a live. Not only I was saved from the devastated illness that I suffered (thanks to those doctors and their team here in Long Island Jewish Hospital) but  I married to a man exactly like  I used to dream about. Each time I think about this, tears start to pool in my eyes. God must love me very much for He gave me exactly what I asked for.  Thinking back, it was like I meant to be here in New York with Steven and his family but more than that I have amazing doctors who loves me very much. These doctors treat me like a good friend, give me a special care and attention. I am so blessed and so grateful to have such kind people around me. I am an Indonesian woman. I do not have family here; but I must admit that the most kindest people and who helped me immensely  are the people from New York. They are Steven my husband and his family, doctors and their  nurses and Steven's friends whom now are my friends.  I feel blessed, grateful and happy to be here. Sometimes when I am thinking back again and again; I think my sudden illness brought me here permanently . Had I not gotten ill; probably things will be different. Or I can not imagine what would have happened to me had I not lived in New York at the time. I could be in my country or anywhere for that matter. And this kind of treatment or surgery is not available at the time and until now in my country; Indonesia.

Well, I do believe if you want something so very much and you work for it; it will be coming true. I do not mean by "work" like really work hard to get it. I think it has something to do with your attitude and energy  shows that you want it with great honesty. Because everything from the beginning to the end is about being 'honest' and with pure 'good intention'. And therefor leads to happiness. I am not saying we, Steven and I are always happy. We have our moments, but whose not! I can feel that this positive energy is still brewing for other things that I want to happen in life might happen again, one day!

I  am thinking about writing my autobiography, because there is something inspiring about it. It is always in the back of my mind. Perhaps one day.

Do you believe in positive energy? Do you have similar story where something spiritually had happened to you in real life just like you want it to be?

Happy Thursday Everyone! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Let What You Love Be What You Do

Today I would like to take the opportunity to write about how lucky and grateful I am to have been enjoy life, happy, breathing and do what I like to do most. The reason for I am saying this is because 9 years 3 months a go to be exact I was laying on a hospital bed for 2 months.  I do not usually talk about this but it is a part of my life; the darkest part when I was very sick and vulnerable not knowing what life would be when I finally got out from the hospital. It was more than 9 years a go. I was not married to Steven at the time but we were dating not even a year when it all happened.

Today, I have been married to Steven for 8 years and 3 months. I am married to the man who stood by me when I was hospitalized and take care of me all the way right after and until today.   Not only that, I feel blessed and lucky because he let me do what ever makes me happy.  To me things that makes me happy is something very simple like 'the flow of my water color paint', ' the cake that I baked the other day', 'the laugh and jokes that Steven and I tell each other', 'the trip we go together', 'the nice compliment I constantly receive when cook dinner for Steven', 'the support and the saying yes I got from Steven'. Those are priceless, those are what makes me happy. And most of all and most of the time, those are simple gestures that supporting in what I want to do in order to make me happy and be able to express myself like taking photography classes, letting me re decorate our new home. Yes I am into photography now and I think I am serious in learning more about it. I love Steven for letting me do what makes me happy may be it is because he knows that I do not have family here in United States and Without his support I can not express myself and therefor I will be sad thinking about my family and son so far away and rarely get be together with them.  Yes I married the man of my dream. And I can only think about  the nicest things and happiest moments that Steven and I will be having in our future together.

What about you? What makes you happy? Seeing your child walking for the first time maybe? Hearing your child saying mama or daddy for the first time? Painting lesson that you took yesterday? Or to see a flower bloom in your garden?

So let's celebrate for the things that we are able to do to make us happy.

My apologize that I edited this post sentences since last time you read it. I am not very good in writing English because English is my second language but I do love writing. My apologize if I made mistakes.

Thank you so much for stopping by, and
have a wonderful week end to you.

Meditation Journal/Collage September 2013

This month's journal/collage is about the 'purple or lilac' color. The calmness of the color synonymous with what I am going to talk about a little here. It is about a book I am reading now called 'Wherever You Go There You Are, by Jon Kabat-Zinn'. It is about meditation is the art of paying attention, of listening to your heart. I have only read a few pages and to be honest it is a little abstract for me to understand. We often associates 'mediation' is a form of practice to seek peaceful and calm mind. This is not that kind of meditation the book is talking about. This meditation can be practiced anytime, anywhere, standing up or sitting down. It is the awareness of being present. In fact that is what it is, not 'doing' but 'being.' It is a short moment of practice to let go of the past and future and simply just being present and in this moment.

From time to time I allow myself reading a spiritual book similar to this one. And I only read a book once every couple of months or so, but that one time I do need the kind of book that can improve or lift up my being or if not reminding and letting  me know that there is a practice on how to be a better, peaceful and happier person. This is something that I need to read repeatedly from time to time or else I can easily forget.

Although you do not read this book or do not know anything about it at all; I am going to copy the quotes that might be an inspiration to you.

I exist as I am that is enough,
If no other in the world be aware I sit content,
And if each and all be aware I sit content.

One world is aware, and by far the largest to me, and that
is myself.
And whether I come to my own today or in ten thousand
or ten million years,
I can cheerfully take it now, or with equal cheerfulness,
I can wait.
~Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass~

'Once the realization is accepted that eve between the closest human beings infinite distances continue to exist, a wonderful living side by side can grow up, if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each to see the whole against the sky.
~Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters~

'Do you have the patience to wait
till your mud settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving
till the right action arises by itself?'
Lao-Tzu, Tao-te-Ching

The heavy is the root of the light.
The unmoved is the source of all movement

Thus the Master travels all day
without leaving home.
However splendid the views,
she stays serenely in herself.
Why should the lord of the country
flit about like a fool?
If you let yourself be blown to and fro,
you lose touch with your root.
If you let restlessness move you,
you lose touch with who you are.
~Lao-Tzu, Tao-te-Ching`

'Direct your eye right inward, and you'll find
A thousand regions in your mind
Yet undiscovered. Travel them and be
Expert in home-cosmography.
~Thoreau, Walden~

Thank you so much for reading!
